Torture is a War Crime
\nJourney for Humanity and Accountability

Today our Journey took us to Ft. Benning, Ga, where
\nthe cancer of the School of Americas (WINSEC) is
\nhoused. I have written on torture before and I believe
\nthat BushCo\u2019s policy of imprisoning people without
\ntheir basic due process and torturing them is one of
\nthe grossest breeches of international and American
\nlaw and one of the overriding reasons that they should
\nbe impeached.<\/p>\n
The School of Torture has graduated many egregious
\nviolators of human rights like Panamanian drug lord,
\nU.S. CIA employee, and Bush family friend (until he
\nbecame an enemy), Manuel Noriega. If there is one
\nissue that should unite Americans it should be against
\ntorture. Incredibly, we still have neighbors in our
\ncommunities who believe that torture is correct,
\nhumane and valuable. However to say torture is \u201cwrong\u201d
\nis like saying the sky is blue. Torture is inherently
\nwrong. Torture is pure evil. Torture is an
\nabomination. Torture is disordered and demented.
\nTorture is sick, sick, sick! <\/p>\n
Most significantly the people who are being tortured
\nin such prison camps as Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib were
\nmostly sold to the US Army by bounty hunters and the
\nNorthern Aliance. Criminal charges against the
\nprisoners are as rare as the truth in the Bush Regime.
\nMost reasonable people would agree that information
\ngleaned from such awfully brutal means
\n(water-boarding, stress positions, extreme noise and
\ntemperatures, sodomy and other sexual humiliation,
\nelectrodes on genitalia, etc) is never reliable. I
\ncan\u2019t even fathom the sick, sadistic minds of the Bush
\nRegime who not only have authorized and
\ninstitutionalized this behavior but also refuse to end
\nit and close the camps that have undermined any moral
\nauthority the US may have had.<\/p>\n
Torture not only dehumanizes the tortured, but the
\ntorturer. It hurts my heart deeply to think of our
\nyoung soldiers carrying out such ruthless acts on
\nother humans who for the most part were in the wrong
\nplace at the wrong time and do not know where Osama
\nbin Laden is hiding. Torture only compromises our
\nsoldiers\u2019 lives in the field as the US cannot credibly
\nclaim any kind of moral high ground if one of our
\nsoldiers is tragically captured. The abomination of
\nAbu Ghraib is one of the reasons that the insurgency
\nbegan on the day Casey was killed in Sadr City,
\nBaghdad. I personally know three men who were
\nillegally and wrongly imprisoned in Guantanamo and Abu
\nGhraib who can testify to the fact that, yes, America
\ndoes torture and does so with extreme, callous and
\ncold-hearted cruelty.<\/p>\n
The Geneva Conventions are clear on prohibiting the
\nuse of torture and the 8th Amendment to our own
\nConstitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishment.
\nWhen torture is official policy, where will it end?
\nWhen George can pick and choose who receives the
\ncenturies old right to habeas corpus and who doesn\u2019t,
\nwhere will it end? Will it end with the \u201cterrorists\u201d
\nin Guantanamo or will it be used here in the USA
\nagainst those who stand up against tyranny and
\nstruggle for our Constitution, freedoms, peace and
\nhuman rights?<\/p>\n
Torture has tarnished the soul of our nation and
\nCongress has done little to restrain BushCo\u2019s
\nTorquemadas and even when a bill is passed restricting
\nthe use of torture, George adds a signing statement
\nsaying that he is above the law. BushCo is no better
\nthan a crime cabal and they must be Consitutionally
\ncontrolled.<\/p>\n
Apparently impeachment is the only remedy for torture
\nand will go a long way to elevating our country\u2019s
\nstanding in the international community and to healing
\nour broken nation. Impeachment is not an optional menu
\nitem that can be set on a table but a Constitutionally
\nmandated requirement (See section II, Article IV).<\/p>\n
Put it back on the table, Ms. Pelosi. We have over a
\nmillion signatures on petitions demanding that
\nCongress end the misery of our nation and world by
\nimpeaching George Bush and Dick Cheney.<\/p>\n
