Dear all,<\/p>\n

I am distressed to hear that you are contemplating disciplinary charges
\nagainst a student group, Campus Antiwar Movement to End the Occupation
\n(CAMEO) for exercising their right to assemble and express opposition to the
\nwar and to the injustices permeating our society.<\/p>\n

Freedom of speech does not mean jumping through hoops in order to exercise
\nit. Freedom of speech does not require permission!<\/p>\n

And, for God’s sake, chalk on the sidewalk is completely and totally
\nharmless. Should we go around the country punishing or arresting
\nsix-year-olds?<\/p>\n

No school administration has the right to limit free speech or assembly in
\nany way. You do, however, have an obligation to see that the truth is
\nexposed about the war, military recruitment on campus and the No Child Left
\nBehind Act which requires the militarization of our schools in order to get
\nmuch-needed federal funds–a sacrifice of the lives of the poor to benefit
\nthe profits of U.S. Business interests! The children of the wealthy are not
\ncalled upon to fight and die for their education!<\/p>\n

You should be standing up with these students and demand an end to the
\noccupation of Iraq; military recruiting in the schools; and the end to the
\nso-called “war on terror” that the U.S. Government is using to terrorize and
\ntorture the world!<\/p>\n

The world is watching what you do! Keep your hands off student rights to
\nfree speech and assembly and, yes, chalking on the sidewalk!<\/p>\n

Who’s side are you on? The students’ or the war-mongers’?<\/p>\n
