Traprock Peace Center
The Global Candlight Vigil for Peace took place in over 30 communities in Massachusetts and in well over 150 cities and towns nationwide, with international participation. See endthewar.org for partial list of vigils.People in communities across the country came together to commemorate last year's global demonstrations for peace and to make statements and create community for peace. We will publish photos that are submitted. Below are photos of the Amherst, Bolton, Greenfield, South Deerfield and Shelburne Falls. The Amherst noon vigil pictured here occurs at that time every Sunday. Many gathered at noon in honor of Margaret and Lee Holt, backbones of that vigil for years. A 5 pm vigil was also held as part of the Global vigils.) About 50 gathered for the Greenfield Vigil, over 70 for the Shelburne Falls vigil (held on either side of the bridge), 35 vigiled in Monatgue and 23 gathered in Wendell. These are all small towns in Massachusetts. The idea of the vigil was to have a de-centralized local vigil for peace, where people would come together with neighbors in their own towns. These initiatives were organized locally by individuals for the most part rather than organizations.
