The civilian shoes represent the fallen Iraqi civilians. The shoes were intentionally laid out in random order, as they were killed while merely living their lives. Many of these shoes are not in pairs. This symbolizes the blown apart bodies. The poster board behind the shoes lists names of dead Iraqi civilians.
