grassrootspeace.org

November 5, 2007: This website is an archive of the former website, traprockpeace.org, which was created 10 years ago by Charles Jenks. It became one of the most populace sites in the US, and an important resource on the antiwar movement, student activism, 'depleted' uranium and other topics. Jenks authored virtually all of its web pages and multimedia content (photographs, audio, video, and pdf files. As the author and registered owner of that site, his purpose here is to preserve an important slice of the history of the grassroots peace movement in the US over the past decade. He is maintaining this historical archive as a service to the greater peace movement, and to the many friends of Traprock Peace Center. Blogs have been consolidated and the calendar has been archived for security reasons; all other links remain the same, and virtually all blog content remains intact.

THIS SITE NO LONGER REFLECTS THE CURRENT AND ONGOING WORK OF TRAPROCK PEACE CENTER, which has reorganized its board and moved to Greenfield, Mass. To contact Traprock Peace Center, call 413-773-7427 or visit its site. Charles Jenks is posting new material to PeaceJournal.org, a multimedia blog and resource center.

Iraq: the Logic of Withdrawal

Forum at New School, Wednesday, December 11, 2002

New School's president Bob Kerrey has
taken a very public, very active stance in supporting war in Iraq.
He has joined a committee called the Committee for the Liberation of
Iraq which seeks to solicit public and corporate support for invasion
of Iraq.

On Nov. 20th, 50 students protested with a die-in front of the school,
and then 25 students proceeded up to Bob Kerrey's office with one
demand: Because of your support for war on Iraq, we will not leave
until you agree to a public forum. After negotiations, he agreed.

Since then there have been disagreements between the administration and
students as to what "public" means. They are trying to only allow New
School students in, but we demanded a public forum and feel it is
neccesary for the public to be aware that NSU students do not agree with
their president's public pro war position.

We are counting on the solidarity of other antiwar movements in NY to
allow this to successfully happen, it is also going to be a great chance
to get garunteed media coverage of the anti-war movement.

The forum is this wednesday, at 1pm in tishman auditorium. 66W 12 st
btwn 5th and 6th ave. Be prepared to come in and be turned away, knowing
that this is an important action in itself...feel free to use this
oppurtunity to hold your own demos outside...

Therenis also a die-in, street theater, and other actions starting at
12, same location, outside.

Thanks and please spread the news if you can.
