UIC STUDENTS RESPOND TO HURRICANE KATRINA

UIC STUDENTS RESPOND TO HURRICANE KATRINA
!!! SPEAK OUT THIS TUESDAY 9/13 @ NOON !!!
!!! LECTURE CENTER PLAZA @ UIC !!!

Racism in the news/ still one-sided news
Saying whites find food/
prey for the national guard ready to shoot
`Cause them blacks loot
New Orleans in the morning, afternoon, and night
Hell No We Ain’t Alright
(Rapper Chuck D, “Hell No We Ain’t Alright”)

If life were something you could buy,
the rich would live and the poor would die.
(American Traditional)

SPEAK OUT EVENT:
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 12NOON-2PM
UIC LECTURE CENTER PLAZA

Bush’s response was a travesty…Money for Hurricane Relief, Not War!

*Stand with other students and members of the UIC community who are outraged
by the utter failure of the government in the wake of the Hurricane disaster.

*Open mic for you to express your thoughts on this preventable
tragedy–poets and rappers encouraged to participate!

*Help collect money for people’s organizations providing disaster relief

*Hand out fact-sheets on why/how this happened and what we can do about it

*Organize with other students–we must change the priorities of this country
and make sure the Bush administration is held accountable.

The U.S. governement’s racism and indifference to the needs of its own
people have been exposed for the world to see. The world’s richest nation, the
world’s biggest military power doesn’t lift a finger to save the poor Black
population of New Orleans. Instead, it issues “shoot to kill” orders against desperate, dying
people. Now, victims stuck in shelters are being denied the aid they need to find
housing, jobs, and medical care. This is an insult on top of injury. Meanwhile, billions of $
continue to flow to fight an illegal war based on lies in Iraq.

JOIN WITH OTHERS IN SPEAKING OUT ON THESE ISSUES!
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IF WE COME TOGETHER.
