I received an email from a friend regarding the Kent State “problem” with dissent and sent emails to all “important” personnel listed there. Here’s the “nice” email I sent. (I wanted to use expletives but used better judgment.)lol
email:
With all due respect, the right to dissent has been the American experience, a pre-Revolutionary right, protected by the Constitution of the United States of America. So, it is more than puzzling and definitely disappointing to learn of the unfair policies and consequences against David Airhart, a student and veteran who attends Kent State University. In fact, I consider it unconscionable for someone who has served in these current wars to be denied the right to speak against the policies of the current administration. Without such rights we lose the very democracy we are expected to “win” for the Iraqi people
We’re living in sad, scary times in this country when people are denied the right to free speech and are punished for dissent. Please consider the options here. Kent State, of all places, should hold dearly to the privilege and right of student dissent. David Airhart should not be suffering punitive consequences. If he is punished by the arbitrariness of government and university, he becomes the martyr and you become the fascists.
Sad, sad times that should never be. God save us from us.
