Heil Dubya!

In 1944, when I enlisted in the Merchant Marine, to “fight fascism” (I was too young to enlist in the Army or Navy), a good German citizen began all public colloquies with “Heil Hitler!” I am a good U. S. citizen. I pay my taxes and have not organized or joined an underground cell. (I blame this on my age and congestive heart failure, but wonder if this is merely a rationalization.) Because Dubya is our Führer, therefore, I start off all public colloquies with “Heil Dubya!”

It appears that the administration of Kent State University agrees with me fully; that is, that we live in a fascist state and that “Dubya is our Führer”. However, it appears to me that a major university should fight subservience to the militarism of our rulers. While it is to be expected that the young (students) will be the “activists”, those entrusted with their education should support them, not attack them on behalf of the militarists. Thus, it is incumbent on me to send you this protest of the school’s projected “punishment” of David Airhart — a knowing veteran of our nation’s imperialist ventures — for taking the opportunity to practice what our Constitution proclaims as his right: freedom of speech.

For shame. For shame!

Fight terrorism! Dismantle the CIA and disarm the Pentagon! U. S. Invaders out of Iraq!
