Dear Sirs, Madam:
I have just returned from Tunisia where a number of journalists were on hunger strike because they have been denied the human rights of freedom of expression and association and in many instances have been imprisoned and tortured. So it is distressing to return to the US and hear that the same human rights are threatened on our college campuses. It is particularly troubling that this is happening at Hampton given the long struggle for human and civil rights that people of African descent have engaged.
I urge you to cancel disciplinary hearings for students who expressed their opposition to the war in Iraq and withdraw any threats of dismissal from Hampton University.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Robinson
