To Whom it May Concern:
The recent response by your University Security personnel to a peaceful
demonstration by some of your students is appalling. As a journalist and
citizen very concerned about the right to free speech in the US in our
current political climate, the behavior of the individuals involved in
this recent event is distressing.
It appears as though the only reasonable solution to this matter is that
all charges made against the students involved in this event be dropped
immediately. In addition, obviously a change in your policy regarding
student protests and demonstrations is overdue.
Please note that the manner in which your University handles this matter
is being watched carefully by journalists in the US as well as overseas.
Thus, it is a great opportunity for you to maintain the honorable
standard of protecting free speech rights of the students at your
institution.
