Statement on HCC – Camilo Mejia
When people exercise caution about comparing the current state of affairs in the United States to that of Nazi Germany, they should pay close attention to incidents like the beating and pepper-spraying of students at Holyoke Community College. Events like this one don’t tell us that we’re moving to a state of fascism, they tell us that we’re already there.
“First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.”
