grassrootspeace.org

November 5, 2007: This website is an archive of the former website, traprockpeace.org, which was created 10 years ago by Charles Jenks. It became one of the most populace sites in the US, and an important resource on the antiwar movement, student activism, 'depleted' uranium and other topics. Jenks authored virtually all of its web pages and multimedia content (photographs, audio, video, and pdf files. As the author and registered owner of that site, his purpose here is to preserve an important slice of the history of the grassroots peace movement in the US over the past decade. He is maintaining this historical archive as a service to the greater peace movement, and to the many friends of Traprock Peace Center. Blogs have been consolidated and the calendar has been archived for security reasons; all other links remain the same, and virtually all blog content remains intact.

THIS SITE NO LONGER REFLECTS THE CURRENT AND ONGOING WORK OF TRAPROCK PEACE CENTER, which has reorganized its board and moved to Greenfield, Mass. To contact Traprock Peace Center, call 413-773-7427 or visit its site. Charles Jenks is posting new material to PeaceJournal.org, a multimedia blog and resource center.

Bridge the Gap on TALK RADIO

One way we can effectively, and rather easily, participate in policy debates on nationwide media would be for people of social conscience to call in to conservative talk-radio shows in vast numbers. I would like to start by targeting two shows in particular ... so that they can no longer avoid having to debate real issues through their call-screening techniques. Be clear, be concise, and be polite!

"No Spin Zone/The O'Reilly Factor" M/W/Fs 9-11 a.m., P.S.T. 1-877-966-7746 (billoreilly.com for radio listing time in your area)

or

Rush Limbaugh: T/THs 9 a.m. š noon P.S.T. 1-800-282-2882 (rushlimbaugh.com for station listing)

Currently approximately only 5% of these two shows on-air callers are people who disagree with the hostÍs point of view, (and in most cases the current administration's policies), which in essence allows the host to belittle such callers and cut them off in an attempt to make them appear naive. However, imagine what would happen if callers with alternative points of view could get their calls on the air more than 50% of the time! ... Let's build bridges ... Again, if you like this idea, please share it by all means available to you. Take a few minutes to e-mail this note to as many individuals and peace action groups as you can access.

The Rush Limbaugh show

Goodbye Germany, Hello Iraq

April 21, 2003

We're going to have four military bases in post-war Iraq according to the UK Daily Telegraph. Believe me, that's going to be great if it happens. It's going to keep the Middle East region teetering out of balance on its little seesaw for quite a while. I mean, their manhood has already been shocked after we spanked Saddam Hussein. Not only that, but I think we should use this necessary shifting of forces to settle our score with the Germans.

Let's simply transfer the troops in Germany to Iraq. If Germany gets threatened, let them handle it with their three tanks and four airplanes. France and Germany are "old Europe," as Donald Rumsfeld said. If they want to run the European Union, let them defend themselves as well. We have new allies in Eastern Europe who are more than happy to welcome our GIs to their recently liberated soil. If we open one base somewhere, we should close another somewhere else - and then apply that same logic to domestic programs here at home. If you want a new social program, eliminate an existing one.

Can you imagine the statement shutting down those bases would make? Let old Gerhard Schroeder start bellyaching. These guys are in debt. Their economies are perennially in bad shape because they have whacked out socialist rules and government control of business - which we defined correctly as fascism last week. Don't think European envy over our economy, which is just waiting for a spark to launch into a boom time, isn't fueling this America hatred. We should leave Germany and France to deal with their own immigration, economic and militant Islamist terrorist problems.
