The key phrase of the day - "Lots of People." The police tried to confine large groups to particular blocks. 30 blocks were full of people running from 49th Street north, with a width of about 3 blocks in many places. The police would cut of connecting streets and tried to prevent the crowd segments from joining. Tensions flared repeatedly over this tactic.
